Vauxhall Elementary School, in Vauxhall, took Education Week (April 30–May 6) to heart by organizing fun, engaging and educational activities for the entire K–6 school.

The Friday before Education Week began, Grades 5 and 6 students carried an Education Week banner through the town. Monday brought math madness to the school—each classroom participated in a treasure hunt to find objects related to measurement, graphing, weight and shapes. On Tuesday, students paired up for buddy reading and expressed their love for reading by bringing their favourite books to read. Wednesday’s challenge was tied to the history of Vauxhall—students participated in a history hunt that focused on discovering the story behind the town’s name and origins. On Thursday, the school had a turbocharger assembly with a focus on science—each classroom, working with newspapers and tape, had 15 minutes to build a structure into which the entire class could fit. The week wrapped up with students carrying the Education Week banner through the town once again.

Education Week 2012 was a great success full of exciting learning opportunities for the entire school.
